In 2015 Altitude is Everything was born out of a passion for skiing and an obsession with Instagram. We wanted to create a place where we could curate the most beautiful ski, snowboard, and mountain lifestyle images while developing a community of like-minded adventurous individuals.
To strengthen our community’s bonds, and solve our own frustration with the outdated ski T-shirt industry, in 2017 we launched the original AIE T-shirts to our biggest supporters and community advocates.
But something didn’t feel entirely right. In the past few years, we’d become increasingly aware of the damage and destruction the fashion industry tolls on our environment every year.
As skiers, we get it. You do too.
There can be no future in a sport rooted in snow, in a world that is warming at an alarming rate. As we skied at resorts with unseasonably short winters and watched in horror as tremendous Glaciers receded, we knew that not only did we not want to be a part of this problem, but we wanted to be involved in the solution.
So we went back to the drawing board. Took time to learn more about the sustainable fashion industry, and design a collection that is produced in an eco-friendly manner, and utilizes organic and recycled materials that we are proud to stand behind.
We don’t just want to sell you more ski gear. We want to give you the opportunity to buy sustainable goods, that give back to the environment, and that in classic retro fashion - will never go out of style.
We’re proud to see the apparel industry shifting more and more towards sustainability everyday, but the industry, and especially many large corporations, still have a long way to go. But we can all do more, and that is our commitment to you. It is our mission to continuously improve our processes to help reduce the impact we have on this earth. We will use better alternative materials whenever possible, and we will only ever produce premium products that will last and reduce overall waste and consumption.
Mountain adventure and sustainability go hand and hand. That’s why we’re committed to producing premium, eco-friendly clothing, that will last longer. We also produce in small batches, and responsible amounts to reduce overstock. We’re proud to be Made in the USA, and our shirts are dyed, cut, and printed in Los Angeles a no-sweat-shop, humane, sustainable way.
In addition to utilizing more sustainable material alternatives wherever possible, AIE chooses production partners that take these measures to minimize our environmental impact:
By using newer, more efficient dye machines, we use 7x less water than the average for clothing manufacturers, saving 24 million gallons a week. Any water we do use goes through a filtration system that allows it to be recycled.
We are a green company through and through - taking every opportunity we can to reduce our co2 emissions. If you take a quick tour around our production facilities, you'll find we use solar energy to power our sewing and cutting facilities, motion-sensor LED lighting and skylights throughout each building, and electric car charging stations to encourage employees to go green.
VIRTUALLY ZERO WASTE
Our manufacturing facilities produce almost no landfill because we recycle pretty much everything that can't be turned into a tee. We've optimized our cutting to reduce plastic use, and excess fabric is recycled into a number of things like baby bibs or stuffing for upholstery. Let nothing go to waste!
Lending a Helping Hand
AIE aims to help spread awareness to the global population that we need to act now if we are going to slow down global warming. While skiers, snowboarders, and outdoor enthusiasts are some of the most passionate people about saving the environment, there are still far too many people just outside of this sphere that do not yet understand that time is quickly running out for our planet.
Our aim is to help educate more of the population about the dangers of inaction, and make people aware of the small changes they can make that over the course of their lives, and alongside millions of others, will have a tremendous impact.
In order to achieve this goal, we work with organizations that focus on environmental conservation and education, giving 10% of our total sales toward their efforts. (As of May 2019, we are currently working to confirm our first partner - Protect our Winters, and will update this page when we are an official partner).
There are so many ways you can help as well, and continuing to educate yourself and help educate others is the key to our success. Follow us on Instagram to keep up with the work we're doing and do your part to spread the message. ❄️
Thanks for checking us out and let's work together to Keep the Snow Retro! ❄️
Keep on shredding,
Lauren and Corey
